Francis Ceramics hand-painted tiles
Delft tiles, hand-painted,
with an antique look.
|
Shown above is an 'Antiqued' delft tile of a leaping lion, 13 cm. x 13 cm. The clay used for this tile is a grogged buff body, very similar to clays used by 17th century tile makers. It has been dipped in a crackle glaze and has been handpainted in cobalt blue oxide. The scuffed edges have been purposefully created to augment the impression of a 17th century handpainted delft tile. |
Traditional Delft TilesCapturing the look and feel of a 17th century Dutch or English blue and white tile requires careful observation of its qualities. Apart from the
type of clay used, the feeling of age can be enhanced by varying the colour of blue oxide used when painting the design, which gives an individual
feel to each tile. |
